Ottawa's Mark Stone: 'We just didn't want it to end'

The Senators boast a historic amount of fight: their will to win made them the first team in the modern NHL era to overcome a 14-point deficit in the standings to make the playoffs. So it shouldn't be surprising that this Ottawa team refused to end its season with a four-game sweep in the first round of the playoffs.

"We just didn't want it to end," Mark Stone told SportsNet after Game 4. "We enjoy coming to the rink every day. We enjoy seeing each other every day. ... We know that if we have once hiccup our season's over."

The Senators would have to pull off another historic feat to win the series. It is nearly impossible for a team to come back from a 3-0 series deficit. But there is some precedent -- the Kings accomplished that challenge last season before going on to win the Cup.

Regardless, the Senators at least earned the respect of their opponent.

"They have a lot of pride," Montreal forward Max Pacioretty told SportsNet. "That's a gutsy team over there."
