Panthers acquire former pick Knight from Flames
The Florida Panthers have acquired center Corban Knight from the Calgary Flames in exchange for center Drew Shore, the team announced Friday night.
Knight, 23, has recorded 26 goals and 56 points in 92 career American Hockey League games. A fifth-round pick, 135th overall, of the Panthers in the 2009 draft, he made his National Hockey League debut on Mar. 5, 2014 with Calgary and has recorded one goal in nine career NHL games over parts of two seasons.
Shore, 23, has played in 67 NHL contests, all with Florida, notching eight goals and 20 points. A second-round pick, 44th overall, of Florida in the 2009 draft, he has recorded nine goals and 21 assists in 33 games AHL games this season, putting him in a tie for sixth in the league in points (30) and sixth in assists. He was named an AHL All-Star for the second time in his career earlier this week.
Unable to come to terms with Florida after finishing his senior season at the University of North Dakota, Knight was originally traded from Florida to Calgary for a fourth-round pick on June 18, 2013.
Both Shore and Knight are scheduled to become restricted free agents at the end of the 2014-15 season.
