He picked up his phone, called the hospital and ... pledged to make a personal donation of $110,000 to cover the additional funding necessary to complete the laboratory.
Watson told hospital officials he was so touched and moved by meeting the patients and families at the hospital that he would personally cover the additional $108,000 needed to meet the $1 million funding goal for the project.
The gait lab will be part of a new motion analysis laboratory at the hospital. Upon completion, the Bubba Watson and PING Golf Gait Lab will be a 2,800-square foot facility serving pediatric patients with neuromuscular diseases and disabilities. It will be the first of its kind in the state of Arizona.
The initial $250,000 donation was part of the "Bubba & Friends Drive to a Million" campaign between Watson and PING. When the club manufacturer introduced its all-pink G20 driver in June -- inspired by the driver Watson used to win the Masters -- it pledged to donate $50 for each of the 5,000 limited-edition clubs sold to the charity of Watson's choice.
"I am truly honored to partner with PING and be a part of an outstanding program," Watson said. "It is great to see the project through and the positive impact the contribution will have on the community."
