Bills sign cornerback Worley week after being cut by Cowboys
ORCHARD, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills signed cornerback Daryl Worley to their practice squad on Tuesday a week after the fifth-year player was released by the Dallas Cowboys.
Worley appeared in seven games and started four for the Cowboys before being released as part of , Dallas also cut defensive tackle Dontari Poe and traded defensive end Everson Griffen to Detroit.
Worley spent the previous two seasons in Oakland and his first two with Carolina after the Panthers selected him in the third round of the 2016 draft.
Overall, he has five interceptions and was credited with 35 passes defended in 63 games, including 53 starts.
Worley provides the AFC East-leading Bills (6-2) veteran depth to an injury-depleted secondary as the team prepares to host the NFC West-leading Seattle Seahawks (6-1) on Sunday.
Veteran Josh Norman missed the past two games and played in just three, because of a nagging hamstring injury. Backup Cam Lewis was placed on injured reserve on Saturday because of a wrist injury.
Worley becomes Buffalo’s latest addition with ties to Carolina. He’s reunited with Bills coach Sean McDermott, who was the Panthers defensive coordinator during Worley’s rookie year. He is also familiar with Bills general manager Brandon Beane, who was previously an assistant GM in Carolina, and had a hand in drafting Worley.
Buffalo freed up room on its practice squad by releasing cornerback Lafayette Pitts.
