"That's something I'd be definitely looking forward to," Serra said. "I guess I'll talk to the powers that be. We had unfinished business. That's something I'd be up for."
The two welterweights served as coaches on season six of "The Ultimate Fighter." They were originally scheduled to face one another at UFC 79 in December, but a back injury forced Serra to withdraw, and Hughes was ultimately dismantled by St. Pierre.
Nearing the end of his career, Hughes (42-6, 15-4 UFC) has dropped two of his last three fights both to St. Pierre. Still, he remains one of the world's top five welterweights and owns victories against Hayato Sakurai, Frank Trigg (twice), Sean Sherk, B.J. Penn and St. Pierre. Of his 42 career victories, 33 have come by technical knockout or submission.
Serra (9-5, 6-4 UFC), meanwhile, had not been finished in nearly seven years before his second-round TKO loss to St. Pierre. The first American to achieve Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt status under Renzo Gracie, he has won four of his last six fights. Victories against current EliteXC lightweight championship contender Yves Edwards, former World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight title challenger Jeff Curran and St. Pierre dot his resume.
