Kimbo, Shamrock headline EliteXC card in October

The match-up will headline a card that will also feature Jake Shields defending the welterweight championship against Paul Daley, plus Gina Carano in a female tilt against Kelly Kobald.
Initially, Slice was rumored to take on EliteXC heavyweight sensation Brett Rogers. It now appears ProElite will hold off on putting Slice against too crafty an opponent, and while Shamrock was at one time "The World's Most Dangerous Man," his prime is long gone. Shamrock should be a good match-up for Slice given that his best years are behind him.
Shamrock (26-13-2), 44, is coming off a disappointing performance against Robert "Buzz" Berry at Cage Rage 25 in March. The founder of "The Lion's Den" was knocked out in the first round for his fifth consecutive loss. The days of fighting Royce Gracie and Dan Severn are a thing of the past, and he must now shift his focus to a former street brawler with a worldwide audience hanging onto every punch.

If he plans to stand and trade, the same strategy he pursued against Berry, Shamrock risks getting knocked out. Judging by Slice's punishing victories over Bo Cantrell and David "Tank" Abbott, the Miami-based heavyweight drops heavy bombs. If Shamrock is smart, he will try taking Slice down to the mat. If, however, Shamrock chooses to exchange on his feet, this one could end in a hurry. And someone could get badly hurt.
Exhibiting a ton of natural charisma, Slice (3-0) has become a household name in the sport. Training with the legendary Bas Rutten, Shamrock's old nemesis from the days of "Pancrase," Slice has gone from fighting on YouTube to fighting on CBS in the span of a year.
At EliteXC: Primetime, Slice faced his toughest opponent to date in James Thompson. He was arguably saved in the third round after Thompson's ear literally fell apart. Throughout the fight, however, Slice demonstrated limited ground prowess, and Thompson was able to capitalize on Slice's lack of experience. Once the final bell sounded, Slice dropped to the mat — huffing, puffing and surely grateful the fight was over.
When Shamrock and Slice, two of the most recognizable faces in all of mixed martial arts, collide on Oct. 4, the world will be watching. This will be Slice's opportunity to stamp his name in the annals of history, while Shamrock desperately needs to prove he still belongs in the sport he helped create.
EliteXC: Saturday Night Fights III emanates from the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla. The action will air live on CBS.
