by JIMMIE TRAMEL World Sports Writer , Tulsa World
Oklahoma State's James Anderson and Oklahoma's Willie Warren were among six players named Thursday to the 2009-10 preseason All-Big 12 basketball team. Kansas teammates Sherron Collins and Cole Aldrich were named preseason co-players of the year. They were joined on the preseason All-Big 12 squad by Texas forward Damion James and Iowa State forward Craig Brackins.
A tie in the voting created six spots on the all-conference squad, which was voted upon by league coaches. Brackins and Collins were unanimous choices. Texas guard Avery Bradley hasn't yet played a college game, but he was an honorable mention all-league selection along with Kansas State guard Denis Clemente and Texas center Dexter Pittman. Bradley, who was chosen the preseason freshman of the year, played for a 33-0 team last season and averaged 19.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.6 steals. Iowa State forward Marquis Gilstrap, a transfer from Gulf Coast Community College in Florida, was voted the preseason newcomer of the year. He averaged 22.6 points and 10.1 rebounds in his only season at the junior college. Anderson, a junior, is the first OSU player to be named first-team preseason All-Big 12 since JamesOn Curry prior to the start of the 2005-06 season. Anderson averaged a team-best 18.2 points last season and scored more points than any sophomore in school history, breaking a record previously held by Byron Houston. Warren is the only sophomore on the preseason All-Big 12 team. He averaged 14.6 points last season, when he was chosen the league's freshman of the year.
