--While senior guard Rodney Pierce is Buffalo's best player, senior swingman Calvin Betts might be the Bulls' most intriguing player. At 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, he looks like he's too muscular and bulky to be versatile. But coach Reggie Witherspoon asserts that Betts can play either forward spot on offense as well as all five positions on defense. Betts used his heft to produce 9.1 points and a team-high 6.3 rebounds last year, but also shot 39 percent from 3-point range.

--More than most Division I coaches, Buffalo's Reggie Witherspoon believes in using his bench and keeping his guys fresh. All-MAC guard Rodney Pierce led the Bulls in minutes, but he averaged just 30.8 per game as Witherspoon had 11 players average at least 9.8 minutes per night. "It really helps in the area of development," Witherspoon said.

--Buffalo continues to search for the school's first NCAA Tournament berth. Last year, the Bulls made their College Basketball Invitational debut and lost an 84-73 decision at Wichita State in the opening round. Rodney Pierce (17 points) and super-sub Max Boudreau (12 points, 6 rebounds) were the only returnees to hit double figures against the Shockers.

LAST YEAR: 21-12 overall, 11-5 in the MAC East; lost in first round of the College Basketball Invitational.

HEAD COACH: Reggie Witherspoon (career 170-194); 11th year at Buffalo (126-171).

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I like our group. I think we're a hard-working group. Ambitious. Eager." -- Buffalo coach Reggie Witherspoon.
