--The Eagles advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season and were defeated in the first round by Villanova. American lost five of its top six scorers from last season, including Patriot Leaguer Player of the Year Derrick Mercer.
--G Nick Hendra was fourth on the team in scoring and third in rebounding for the Eagles last season (6.3 ppg, 4.4 rpg). He averaged 21 minutes per game. Coach Jeff Jones says he expects Hendra to do a lot of heavy lifting for this year's squad, having to work without last season's top scorers Derrick Mercer and Garrison Carr. --F Stephen Lumpkins was a sparkplug for the Eagles off the bench last season, averaging 3.4 points and 2.6 rebounds in just under 11 minutes per game.
LAST YEAR: 24-8 overall, 13-1 in the Patriot League, first place; lost in first round of the NCAA Tournament.
HEAD COACH: Jeff Jones (career 294-225); 10th year at American (148-121).
QUOTE TO NOTE: "We are excited to play 16 times at home and look forward to playing so many quality teams on the road. The combination of the two will help us to be as prepared as possible for the Patriot League Tournament." -- Coach Jeff Jones, on American's 2009 schedule.
