No. 18 Mississippi State beats Georgetown

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Jarvis Varnado scored 17 points and had five blocks to lead No. 18 Mississippi State to a 90-70 victory over Georgetown College on Saturday.

The Bulldogs shot 56.6 percent from the floor and scored 24 points off Tiger turnovers to win their final preseason exhibition game. Mississippi State led 41-22 at the half.

Varnado was 7 for 7 from the field and had nine rebounds to lead the Bulldogs. Kodi Augustus had 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, while Dee Bost had 14 points and Phil Turner 12.

Eddie Gray had a game-high 19 points to pace the Tigers, an NAIA powerhouse from Georgetown, Ky. Vic Moses added 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Kyle Saxton scored 10 points off the bench.

The Bulldogs will begin regular season play Friday night against Rider.
