USC forward Davon Jefferson will return for his sophomore season, according to sources close to the program.

The 6-foot-8 Jefferson averaged modest numbers -- 12.1 points and 6.3 rebounds -- while playing alongside fellow freshman O.J. Mayo this past season.

"He's definitely coming back," said one source.

The Los Angeles Times also reported Jefferson will return in Friday's edition, citing a source.

Jefferson, who turns 22 in November, is one of the most athletic players in the country and flirted with the idea of declaring out of prep school a couple years ago. However, he didn't finish the season at Patterson School (N.C.) and took correspondence courses to qualify to play this season at USC.

While Jefferson is expected to return, don't expect Mayo to join him at USC. According to the same sources, it's unlikely that the highly touted guard returns to college.
