Former UNLV coach Bill Bayno is back in college.

Bayno, 45, who has been working with the Portland Trail Blazers for the last few years, has accepted the head coaching job at Loyola Marymount, according to sources close to the situation.

Bayno spent seven years as an assistant to John Calipari at UMass from 1988-95 before getting the job at UNLV. He was 94-65 in five-plus years in Vegas, leading the Running Rebels to a pair of NCAA tournament appearances.

However, he was fired in 2000 in the wake of a recruiting scandal involving Lamar Odom. Since, Bayno has coached in the ABA and CBA.
