Smart cracker,

How do you measure success? Bob Knight is one of the greatest coaches of all time (3 National Championships), Roy Williams is a great coach (1 National Championship), Jim Bayheim (sp?) at Syracuse (1 National Championship). Lute's won a National Championship plus numerous Pac 10 Championships. He isn't John Wooden but then again how many coaches out there today are? I'll take Lute any day and twice on Sunday. Class act, solid coach.

Dear Jerryd,
As a U of A Alum I would to say from the bottom of my heart...don't let the door hit you in the A$$ on the way out. Hope you commitment to the NBA is a little better than it was to the Cats.

gcpwp, Monta Ellis never played collegeball. And what do you mean never made it?

Why do we go to college, to build better wage earning ability (if it just for the education than you are more noble than I) and what have these kids done they are about to have great earning power.
The NBA is stupid for gambling on such young kids who have yet to finish growing. The first team that has them will waste millions to develop them so they can sign with somebody else as a finished product. Look at last year Durant, Conoley, and Oden. All will be great players one day but far from finished products. They either need to get stronger, smarter and healthier. I am glad to see the NBA wants to make so they have to come out after sophomore season will make both levels more compeitive and improve both product offerings to the us the consumer.

People can compare him to Arena, Monta Ellis...Or Mateen cleeves..great college player that never made it in the NBA

I feel he should have stayed one more year. So what if he a stellar season in college. Miles Simon was MVP of the Tourny and won a title. College career is has no bearing on how "ready" these kids think they are. he should stay one more year and really learn how to play on a team that will compete for a title next season. The starting 5 of Wise, Jennings, Bayless, Budinger, Hill, would be comparable to the team, probably better, than the 97 team that won it all.

hey uid : sounds like your the whiner or your a little rich kid that don't have to work . i put two of my own kids in college . still paying. very few go from high school right into pros. so if there intentions was go one year then quit . they should not have been ther in the first place . give the scholarship to someone who wants a education . to get a scholarship for the orofession you want is real hard . and they only pay for the class . not your living while in school. and for the guy who said he brought in revenue . tucson basketballhas been sold out for over 20 years . waiting list for tickets . you could get a job at the railroad faster .

You're right cracker. Before Lute, the Arizona basketball program was prominent. He hasn't coached the team to three Final Fours, the longest streak of tournament appearances (more than your coach K) and a national championship. He only built one of the most successful programs at a school that had no history of winning in any sport when he took over. You're right cracker. You should be an AD at a major D-1 program so you can go after Coach K and let Coach Olson and his "underachieving" ways go.

In response to UTEX79.Nobody is putting a gun up to these kids heads and telling them to come to the NBA.And you say it's greed on both sides come on if you were in the same situation you would be out tthere playing in theNBA also give me a break.

Oops... This talk about having Lute back is silly. In the 15 years Ive been in Tucson and tried to become a fan of this team, all Ive witnessed is underachievement. I feel I can be objective since they are not my team, as opposed to myopic UofA fan. Lute Olson has arguably had more talent than any other program since hes been at AZ, and has 5 final 4s and 1 championship in 24 yrs. I cant stand Duke, but if coach K had these teams, those numbers would be more like 15 and 6. Lute is a great recruiter, but a poor coach and motivator. Year after year, including this year in which they wouldnt have done any better with him cause it was the same ol UofA on the court, are underachieving, dissapointing, poor shot selection having, bad decision making, undisciplined, no defense playing, letdowns year after year. Its been time for Lute to step aside.

Unfortunately, college basketball has become the farm league for the NBA...rarely do the kids stay in school to get a degree. I agree the NBA is ruining college basketball. If I were a college basketball coach I'd be hesitant to recruit a top high school player knowing that he probably won't stay on campus more than a year or so, if even that. Following the NFL's rule wouldn't be a bad thing at all. Doubt it ever happens, though. Too much greed in the equation...on both sides.

NBA needs to follow the NFL's lead, players should have to stay at least two years or just bring it back to the way it was, that way you don't get the one and dones who are only going to college because they have to. This rule some thought would help is ruining college basketball even more. Bayless is a great player who will be picked high, be interesting to see if he can play the 1 in the NBA or if he will be a tweener, Cats really struggled without Nic Wise who was their only true point guard.

Not only are the kids just stupid these days, they are also pretty damm greedy. Not only will he not last in the NBA, He will not make it in life. I think that every athlete that dose not graduate should pay back the school every dime the school has ever spent on them. All they are doing is helping to raise the cost of an education. STAY IN SCHOOL YOU STUPID IDIOT. Your mama dosen't need a mansion that bad.

Did anyone actually watch him play this year? He was auditioning for the NBA the entire time. He WILL be a lottery pick. He WILL make a ton in guaranteed money. With his size he is definitely a hit or miss player. It's more about what team and system drafts him than anything he can do. I don't think he's anymore talented than Hassan Adams, and he's out of the league now. As for AZ, at least Lute is back and they can get up and down again. Watching a stagnant, boring pro style offense was like torture for real fans of the program. Let Jennings run the show and hopefully Budinger can finally live up to his hype. If he stays...

bayless will just be a bench warmer in the NBA
i can't see him drafted in the top 15
