UConn guard Wiggins leaving for UMass
UConn guard Doug Wiggins told FOXSports.com that he will transfer to UMass.
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound point guard was stuck behind A.J. Price at UConn and decided to go elsewhere for more minutes.
"I didn't really get a chance at UConn," Wiggins said. "I learned a lot in my two years and my experience will help me in the future, but UMass seems like a place where I will have a great opportunity."
Wiggins, who averaged 6.7 points and 2.7 assists last season in 19 minutes per game, will sit out this season and become eligible in 2009-10.
The addition sets UMass up with one of the strongest backcourts in the A-10 for the next two seasons. Kellogg will have Chris Lowe, Ricky Harris and Wake Forest transfer Anthony Gurley this season and Wiggins can step in and replace Lowe after next year.
"I'm excited," Wiggins added. "Because all three of us bring different things to the table."
