Purdue transfer Scott Martin is heading down the road to Notre Dame.

The 6-foot-7 freshman forward becomes the second big-time transfer that Irish coach Mike Brey and his staff have added in the last few weeks. Ben Hansbrough also joined the team from Mississippi State and will sit out this season.

Martin said he liked the school and his new teammates, and Brey was a key factor in his decision.

"He lets players play and lets them do what they're good at," Martin said.

Martin averaged 8.5 points and 3.8 rebounds to help Purdue to a surprising 25-9 overall mark and a 15-3 record in Big Ten play.

However, he left in hopes of an expanded role in South Bend.

"Notre Dame is a great school and Coach Brey and his staff are terrific," Martin said.

Martin also visited Butler and Valparaiso.

"I went to the NCAA tournament this year and enjoyed it," Martin said. "I really want to get back and I feel as though Notre Dame gives me the best chance to do that."

BIG Boiler fan here, I liked Scott Martin, but was not impressed with his shooting. He came in as a big time scorer, didn't happen, maybe it will at ND, but give me a break, I like a coach that lets a player do what he likes, are you serious. Good riddens, you'll be working in a few more years, and see what life is all about. Good Luck

Martin is a cry baby and chump.....He came to Purdue thinking he was going to be the big man on campus but reality set in and his unhearded high school teammate domminated, Robbie Hummel. Good Bye Scott and F**K RUDY.

This young man transferred from one Indiana school to another Indiana school? Why bother?

Don't you know that any event, no matter how small, is considered "big-time" by the media if it involves ND?

Valpo would have been a much better fit for him...some kids have to learn the hard way...I look for him not to make it to his senior year in basketball at ND. I hope for his sake I am wrong, however , have been hitting about 70 % of my predictions!!!!

"Here come the Irish, here come the Irish...."<br />Golly, are the smart schools making a comeback, since they're not catering to the "Stern-One-and-Done" mentality of primadonna catering? The NBA might have to "invest" in the basketball factories that churn out all their 19-year-old projects.
