Ohio U. hires Ohio St. basketball assistant
Ohio State assistant coach John Groce has filled the final Division I coaching opening.
Groce has been hired to replace Tim O'Shea at Ohio University.
The 36-year-old Groce was introduced at a news conference Friday.
Groce is considered one of the top assistant coaches in the country and has helped Ohio State coach Thad Matta quickly build the Buckeyes into a program that went to the national title game two years ago.
Groce, 36, grew up in the Midwest and also worked for Herb Sendek at North Carolina State and with Matta at Xavier.
He replaces O'Shea, who left last week to take a pay cut at Bryant University in Rhode Island. O'Shea is a native New Englander who wanted to return to the area.
