MOUNT WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Mary Dunn and Leah Westbrooks combined for 21 first-half points to stake Mount St. Mary's to a 13-point lead at the break while Hassanah Oliver recorded 10 points in the second half to maintain the advantage and lift the Mount past Fairfield 66-59.

Brianna Gauther (St. Mary's) also recorded 16 points to help Mount St. Mary's (4-4) win its fourth non-conference game of the year, the most since the squad went 5-4 in non-league games in 1999-00. The 4-4 start is the Mountaineers best mark since 2001-02.

Gauthier moved into second place on the program's all-time career 3-pointers made list with 124 and 28th place on the all-time career points list with 864.

Maryland FIELD HOCKEY: Maryland field hockey coach Missy Meharg, a Severna Park resident, was named the 2008 Dita/NFHCA Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year. It is the 12th such honor for Meharg, who completed her 21st season at Maryland this year with both ACC and NCAA titles.

The honor qualifies Meharg for the NFHCA National Coach of the Year honor, which will be announced next month at the NFHCA Coaches Luncheon. Since the organization began recognizing the National Coach of the Year in 1990, Meharg has won six awards, the most of any coach at the college level.

Sitting at 267-100-9 for her illustrious career, Meharg led the 2008 Terrapins to a 22-2 record and triumphs in both the ACC and NCAA Tournaments. For Meharg, it was the seventh ACC championship, and the fifth NCAA Tournament crown - the third in four years.

Navy MEN'S BASKETBALL : The Navy men's basketball team has been named the Mid-Major Team of the Week by the FoxSports.com Weekly Wrap. The Mids are 8-2 overall heading into finals and have won eight of their last nine games, including Tuesday night's 68-65 victory at 2008 NCAA -qualifier Mount St. Mary's.

In addition, one week after garnering two votes in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major national poll, Navy has picked up 24 more votes in this week's poll for a total of 26.

The Mids are off for final exams until Dec. 20, when they will travel to Buffalo, N.Y., to battle Canisius.

Navy SPRINT FOOTBALL: The mIDS led the way with 28 All-CSFL Team selections - 12 of which were on the first team.

The 28 all-league members are the most in the program's 63-year history. Over the last-eight years, Navy has racked up 177 All-CSFL honors.

The Midshipmen (7-0, 4-0 CSFL) won the CSFL title for the 33rd time in school history and the 26th time outright. The Mids boasted their 22nd perfect season all-time with the league's top-ranked offense (340.1 yards per game) and top-ranked defense (184.6 yards per game).

Navy WOMEN'S SOCCER: For the second time in her three-year career, Navy junior Shelly Moeller has been recognized as one of the region's top defenders by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Moeller, the 2008 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, was named to the NSCAA's All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team on Tuesday, marking the sixth consecutive year in which a Midshipman has earned all-region mention.
