Swansea Storm Basketball Club have signed American Roderick Johnson for the upcoming season.

Storm have recruited the 6t 8in forward in a bid to strengthen their roster and build on the success the club have enjoyed over the past three seasons.

Johnson, from Anaheim in California, has been playing college basketball at the University of Chaminade in Hawaii where he averaged 20 points and five rebounds per game in the competitive NCAA Division II PAC West Conference.

Storm director of basketball, Gavin Williams said: "To have a player of Rod's ability and experience playing basketball in Swansea is very exciting.

"Rod's height and athleticism will be the missing piece to the jigsaw that we have been looking for to complete our already talented squad of players"

"In addition to playing for the Storm, Rod will also be actively involved in our junior basketball and school coaching programme, where he will be looking to pass on his knowledge and experience to local secondary school pupils in the Swansea area."

Johnson will feature for Storm when they take on South Wales Police in the Welsh Basketball Cup on Tuesday. Tip-off is at 8.15pm at Swansea's LC2.
