FORWARD JOEL DELASS (Western Michigan Christian) of Spring Lake was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's Player of the Year in soccer. The senior had 11 goals and eight assists in 18 games for Wheaton (Ill.) College, and 36 career goals and 18 assists.
THE GLIAC'S basketball player of the week honors go to Grand Valley freshman guard Emma Veach (Grand Haven) and Ferris State sophomore forward Justin Keenan (Ottawa Hills) in the North Division, and Hillsdale College senior center Tony Gugino (Holland Christian) in the South. Veach averaged 12.3 points and seven rebounds to go with 11 assists and six steals in two wins and a loss. Kennan had 24 points, eight rebounds and two steals in the Bulldogs' 78-63 loss to St. Joseph's (Ind.) College. Gugino led the Chargers to a pair of wins with 34 total points.
FORWARD KALE WASSO averaged 23.5 points for Davenport University and was named the Most Valuable Player of the Bridgewater (Vir.) Tournament en route to Player of the Week honors in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. The South Haven sophomore also averaged four rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals in an 85-74 win against Eastern Mennonite (Va.) and a 71-61 title game win against host Bridgewater College for the first tourney title in Panthers history.
JOSLYN NARBER (Wyoming Park) of Aquinas College was named the women's Player of the Week in the WHAC after the junior forward averaged 22 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.3 steals in four wins. Narber also was voted the MVP of the Aquinas Classic.
CALVIN COLLEGE'S MARCIA HARRIS (Grand Rapids Christian) scored 58 points in a pair of wins to help the Knights to the Wisconsin Lutheran Tip-Off Tournament title, and to claim Player of the Week recognition.
SENIOR JESSE REIMINK (Hudsonville) of Hope was selected the men's MIAA Player of the Week thanks to 47 points, 20 rebounds and seven steals in the Flying Dutchmen's two season-opening wins. The forward scored a career-high 30 points with 11 rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots in a 74-69 win against Indiana-South Bend.
QUARTERBACK TROY WEATHERHEAD (Comstock Park) set the Hillsdale College single-season record with 242 pass completions, eclipsing the previous mark of 240 set in 2000 by All-American Mark Nicolet. The sophomore's 2,847 passing yards rank second all-time.
THE OLIVET COLLEGE wrestling team is ranked 16th in the preseason Division III poll. The Comets will be led by Sparta graduates Jason Brew and Kyle Vanderhyde. The 174-pound Vanderhyde is top-ranked in his weight class. Brew is No. 2 at 157.
JUNIOR GUARD BRITTANY KEMPERMAN (Catholic Central) and freshman center Patricia Rewa (Greenville) of Albion College were placed on the all-tournament team at the Kalamazoo College Hornet Tip-Off Classic.
KENDRA POTGETER (Byron Center), a sophomore at Dordt (Iowa) College, was named to the first team of the All-Great Plains Athletic Conference volleyball team.
FERRIS STATE'S TINA MUIR used her 12th-place finish at the Division II cross country championships to join Jenny Irwin (1992-95) as the school's only two All-Americans in the sport.
FRESHMAN MATHEW NELSON (Grandville) of Iowa went 3-1 at the Big Ten fall men's tennis singles championships.
