Guard's transfer shocks Red Raiders

Texas Tech coaches were caught off guard when freshman guard Tyree Graham told them Friday that he planned to transfer. Graham, a native of Durham, N.C., told coaches he wanted to be closer to home to take care of some family issues.

" It was really a big surprise," Raiders assistant coach Stew Robinson said Monday.

Graham, who backed up John Roberson in Tech's three-guard lineup, averaged 3.9 points and 14 minutes in 13 non-conference appearances. In Saturday's 73-61 loss at Baylor, the Raiders inserted forward Michael Prince in the lineup instead of guard Nick Okorie, and Robinson indicated Tech might continue with that scheme.

Graham will be granted his release, although Robinson noted, "We talked to him and tried to make sure he had thought it through."

Jayhawks await word on status of Little

Kansas junior transfer guard Mario Little, the Big 12' s preseason newcomer of the year, will know today if he'll continue to play this season.

Little is hampered by a stress fracture in his left leg that has limited him to spot appearances in just three games. He has missed all four of his field goal attempts and averages only 1.0 point and 2.7 rebounds in 7.3 minutes.

Under the NCAA's medical hardship rules, a player is eligible for a redshirt when he has played in less than 30 percent of his team's games and does not play in the second half of the season. For the Jayhawks, that starts with tonight's game against Kansas State.

"He's not going to be 100 percent when the decision is made," coach Bill Self said. "We're rolling the dice, but you'd be rolling the dice no matter what."

OSU gets big boost from Moses

For Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford, the most pleasant aspect of Saturday's 72-61 victory over Texas A&M was Marshall Moses. The little-used sophomore forward came off the bench to destroy the Aggies inside, posting career highs in points (15) and rebounds (13).

"It's tremendous for our team," said Ford, who has been concerned with his team's lack of an inside presence. "It's a position where we've challenged our guys, where we need some production, and he more than came through. It's a huge bonus if we can get that type of effort out of that position."
