Malik Alvin scored a career-high 29 points and Emanuel Mayben added 21 to lead top-seeded Binghamton to a 73-65 victory over Hartford Saturday in the quarterfinals of the America East tournament.

The Bearcats, who have won nine in a row, became the first higher seed to win in the tournament's first four games.

Binghamton, the league's regular season co-champs, have earned the conference's automatic NIT bid if it doesn't win the NCAA bid that goes to the America East tournament winner.

The Bearcats' D.J. Rivera, the conference scoring leader, had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Binghamton (21-8).

Mayben, who sustained a lower back injury after a fall in the second half, made it to the locker room on his own power and quickly returned. He also had six rebounds and five assists.

Senior guard Michael Turner led Hartford (7-26) with 20 points while senior guard Jaret Von Rosenberg added 15 points and six rebounds. The ninth-seeded Hawks, who reached the title game last year, defeated Maine 65-56 Friday.

Binghamton will face the winner of Saturday's New Hampshire-Stony Brook game today in the semifinals.
