Eric Bailey's blog: It wasn't just basketball that lured Scottie Haralson to TU. The city of Tulsa deserves credit also, Doug Wojcik says. Tulsa has raided a Final Four program for its latest player.

As first reported Sunday on tulsaworld.com , transfer Scottie Haralson signed scholarship papers to join the TU basketball program. Haralson, a 6-4, 220-pound shooting guard, will swap his address from the University of Connecticut, where he spent one season. "Scottie is a great addition to our team. He complements D.J. Magley extremely well for the future, and then obviously losing Ben Uzoh next year he can step in there," Tulsa coach Doug Wojcik said. "Scottie fills a huge need. He's a big, strong and powerful kid who can really shoot the basketball. He was a very exceptional high school player with national recognition." Haralson will sit out the upcoming season, per NCAA transfer rules, and have three years of eligibility left. He'll join fellow transfer Magley, a post player at Western Kentucky for two seasons. Haralson and Magley bring NCAA Tournament experience to the Tulsa program. Haralson was a member of UConn's Final Four team last season, and Magley played in five NCAA Tournament games at Western Kentucky. "I haven't lived that often in the transfer world, but this year was a really good time to have a couple of guys," said Wojcik, who will have both players available in the 2010-11 season. As a prep star in Jackson, Miss., Haralson averaged 22.1 points per game during his junior and senior seasons at Provine High School and led his team to consecutive state championships. He was a first-team all-state selection and the 2008 Gatorade Player of the Year in Mississippi. Haralson had limited minutes at UConn last season, seeing action in just 17 games. Wojcik said many have told him that Haralson just needs an opportunity to play. "Besides the fact that he's a good player ... he fits with us as far as his character and academics," Wojcik said. "He's fitting into our family. Not just the TU basketball family, but the university and campus family." Tulsa discovered Haralson with help from the UConn staff, which aided in the transfer process. Hurricane assistant Jeremy Ballard is friends with Huskies assistant Patrick Sellers, and Wojcik is familiar with another assistant, George Blaney.
