UW-Platteville to announce new men's basketball coach today
by Telegraph Herald
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville issued a press release Monday saying it will announce its new head men's basketball coach today at 2 p.m. during a press conference in the UWP Pioneer Student Center lounge. The Telegraph Herald has learned UWP will name Jeff Gard as its new coach. Gard, a southwest Wisconsin native and UWP alum, had been a Pioneers assistant for six seasons under former coach Paul Combs, who left in early May to take the job at NCAA Division II Wayne State (Neb.). Gard, who grew up in Cobb, Wis., in the Iowa-Grant school district, was chosen from a list of five finalists - that included Bo Ryan's oldest son, Will - from an original field of 97 applicants for the position.
