MONMOUTH, Ore., June 10 -- Western Oregon University issued the following news release:

The Western Oregon University women's basketball program has announced its plans for an eight-day trip to Argentina to participate in the Buenos Aires Friendship Tour, June 16-24. The Wolves will play four games against various top club teams from the Buenos Aires area. The foreign tour, allowed once every four years for a program according to NCAA rules, will be more than just a trip to South America for the Wolves, it will also be an opportunity to get 10 extra days of organized practice in preparation for the 2009-10 season. "This event is an excellent opportunity for our student-athletes to foster international goodwill and friendship among nations while promoting the game of basketball ," said Western Oregon head coach Greg Bruce.

"With the exception of the US Olympic program, there are few opportunities for athletes to experience the competition, history, and culture of other countries on an international level. "This experience for our players will be unlike any they have ever taken part in before," continued Bruce. "To be able to visit Buenos Aires, the Paris of the South, and see all of the incredible sights and experience the culture of Argentina's capital will be something none of us will ever forget," Eight members of the Western Oregon women's basketball program, Katie Torland, AJ Hawk, Sara Zahler, Danielle Bellando, Danielle Albus, Erika Wilson, Colby Patton, and Lindsey Shearer, will be joined by Kristin Hein, an All-GNAC performer, from Northwest Nazarene University and a Tualatin, Ore. resident.
