MENS BASKETBALL ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH BARRY WORTMAN ACCEPTS POSITION AT OAK RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL
by US Fed News
During his tenure at MSU the Eagles have improved from a 12-18 record in the 2006-2007 season, to a 20-16 overall record, an OVC tournament championship, and the Eagles' first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 1984 in the 2008-2009 campaign. "It was a very difficult decision," said Wortman. "Coach Tyndall, our staff, and players have become my extended family. This made it extremely hard to even consider leaving. However, I have a great opportunity to go back home to Tennessee and coach and teach at one of the finest schools in the state. My experience at MSU has far exceeded my expectations and my growth as a coach while working with Coach Tyndall cannot be measured. I'll miss the great people of Morehead and will be pulling for the Eagles every time they play." "It's a very sad day for the Eagle basketball family. However, it's a fantastic opportunity for Barry (Wortman) to be the head coach at arguably the best high school in the state of Tennessee," said MSU head coach Donnie Tyndall. "Barry has been an incredibly big part of our success and the rebuilding of this program. "Oak Ridge is not only getting a great coach and teacher, but they are getting a man that is a phenomenal person as well. He has been with me from day one and not only am I losing my right hand man; I'm also losing my best friend. I'm extremely happy for Coach Wortman and wish him the very best." Worman is no stranger to Tennessee high school basketball. He has held coaching positions at LaVergne High School, Hickman County, Lincoln County, and Shelby Central High School. At Hickman County he led the school to a Class AA state title. He was also named district and area coach of the year for the 2003-2004 season. For more information please contact: Sarabjit Jagirdar, Email:- htsyndication@hindustantimes.com
