BURLINGTON, Vt., May 4 -- The University of Vermont issued the following news release:

Matt Glass (Jericho, Vt.) has announced his decision to transfer from the University of Massachusetts men's basketball program to Vermont. Under NCAA rules, Glass will have to sit out the 2009-10 season, but will have two years left to play for the Catamounts.

Vermont head coach Mike Lonergan made the announcement today. "We are very excited about having Matt join the UVM basketball family. We think he will be a great addition to our team and look forward to coaching him. Matt represents everything we look for in a student-athlete and we are all thrilled he is coming home," said Lonergan. Glass graduated from Mount Mansfield Union High School in Jericho, Vt. in 2006. He was the two-time Burlington Free Press Mr. Basketball, becoming the first non-senior to win the award in 15 years in 2005. Glass scored 1,013 points in his high school career, as he averaged 16.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game for his career. As a senior, he scored 22.8 points per game and grabbed 10.6 rebounds. During the Cougars run to the state title, he averaged 21 points and 10 rebounds per playoff game with a season-best 27 points and 14 rebounds in the state title game. Glass also played a prep year at Northfield Mount Hermon in Northfield, Mass. At UMass he played in 63 games in his two years there, including all 30 this past season when he made nine starts. As a sophomore Glass averaged 3.4 points and 1.7 rebounds in 13.1 minutes per game. Over the team's last six games he hit 12-of-18 three-pointers (67%), and raised his average to 8.0 points per contest in games that he started. For more information please contact: Sarabjit Jagirdar, Email:- htsyndication@hindustantimes.com
