GOLDEN EAGLES FINALLY SNAP STREAK ON SENIOR NIGHT

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 21 -- California State University Los Angeles issued the following press release:

Cal State L.A.'s men's basketball team finally put an end to its eight-game losing streak and kept alive its hopes for a spot in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament. The Golden Eagles raced out to a 24-point second-half lead and went on to beat Cal State Stanislaus, 76-60, Saturday night in the Eagles Nest. Cal State L.A. (11-14, 6-12 CCAA) had four players reach double figures in scoring and won for the first time since Jan.

23. Dwayne Jones led the way with 19 points, while Christofer Hart had a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double. Donte Bell added 12 points and Leland Jones had 11 points and seven rebounds. Michael Dyson led Cal State Stanislaus (6-17, 2-16 CCAA) with 11 points, while Benny Koochoie had 10 points. Cal State L.A. honored its four seniors - Artis Gant, Chris Mark, Bell and Hart - in pre-game ceremonies. Cal State L.A. pulled to within one game of eighth-place Sonoma State in the CCAA standings with two games remaining. The Golden Eagles and Seawolves will meet in the regular-season finale next Friday in Rohnert Park. The Golden Eagles shot 45.1 percent and enjoyed a 41-32 rebounding edge. Cal State L.A. also forced 22 Cal State Stanislaus turnovers while committing only 14. Cal State L.A. led by 13 points, 40-27, at halftime and extended its lead to 24 points, 59-35, after a layup by Dwayne Jones with 11:05 to go. Cal State Stanislaus, though, made a furious comeback and went on a 14-2 run that pulled the Warriors to within 12 points, 61-49, with 6:55 remaining. This time, though, the Golden Eagles did not buckle. A steal by Hart led to a dunk by Bell and another steal by Hart led to a lay-up by Artis Gant and built the lead back to 16 points, 65-49, with 6:17 to go. A layup by Gant and a 3-pointer by Hart extended the lead back to 20 points, 70-50, with 4:54 remaining and put the game away. Cal State L.A. will conclude the regular-season on the road next week beginning with a game at Humboldt State on Thursday.
