Kansas CITY, M.O.,March 13 -- California State University Dominguez Hills issued the following press release:

With tonight's NCAA Men's Basketball West Regional contest against Central Washington at 8:00 pm PST on the campus of BYU-Hawai'i on the horizon, senior guard Michael Hernandez was named to the NABC 1st-team All-Region squad, with Jerrell Smith earning 2nd-team All-Region honors. Hernandez, who was named to the 2nd-team Daktronics All-Region team and the 1st-team All-CCAA squad after claiming a CCAA Player of the Week honor during the season, helped lead the Toros to a share of the CCAA regular season title, its first in 21 years. The Whittier native also has started 22 games in 28 games played, and leads the team in points and assists, notching double-figure scoring in 19 games, including six games with at least 20 points.

Smith was a force on both ends of the floor, leading the CCAA in blocks, placing 7th in FG%, 12th in scoring and 13th in boards. Double-teamed all year in the post, Smith tallied 17 games in double-figure scoring, boasting a season-high 11 rebounds en route to one CCAA Player of the Week honors for the CCAA co-champion Toros. A standout defender, Smith holds the CSUDH single-season mark for blocked shots, and sits four away from establishing the school's all-time mark for blocked shots.
