Junior guard Aubrey Coleman led all players with 30 points and added a team-high 10 rebounds to lead the University of Houston men's basketball team to a 97-69 win over Conference USA-rival UCF on Wednesday at UCF Arena. The Houston native recorded his second 30-point game of the season and moved into a tie with senior center Marcus Cousin for the team lead with seven double-doubles this season. Coleman did a little of everything to help lead the Cougars to the win, hitting 11-of-12 free throws while adding five assists and three steals in 38 minutes. Coleman was one of four Cougars to reach double digits in points.

Junior forward Qa'rraan Calhoun posted 18 points, including three 3-pointers, while junior guard Kelvin Lewis posted 17 points with three treys of his own. Cousin also added 10 points with seven rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Freshman point guard Desmond Wade dished out a game-high six assists with three steals and no turnovers in 31 minutes. With the win, the Cougars improved to 13-7 overall and 4-3 in C-USA games and enjoyed its third straight win against the Knights. UH also enjoyed its most points and biggest win in the all-time series against UCF. UCF fell to 15-7 overall and 5-3 in league contests. The game was close early, but the Cougars used a big run to seize control of the game. The Knights pulled to within 9-7 on Jermaine Taylor's jumper at the 9:02 mark of the first half. But the Cougars used a 20-6 run during the next 4:28 to build a double-digit lead they would never relinquish. After the Cougars took a 43-28 lead into the locker room at halftime, UCF battled back to put the score at 50-37 on Taylor's 3-pointer with 16:48 left in the game. However, that would be as close as the Knights would get the rest of the way. The Cougars connected on 69.6 percent (16-of-23) of their shots in the second half and eventually built a 30-point lead late in the game before setting for the final margin of victory. UH nailed a season-high 56.1 percent (32-of-57) of its shots in the game while limiting the Knights to 38.8 percent. The Cougar defense was a major factor in the team's high-percentage shots. UH forced 18 turnovers, which led to 31 points while committing only eight turnovers, which resulted in two UCF points. Taylor led all players with 26 points, while Tony Davis finished with 20 points and 13 rebounds in the loss. NEXT HOME GAME FOR Houston The Cougars return home to play host to Conference USA- and crosstown-rival Rice at 8 p.m., Saturday, inside Hofheinz Pavilion.
