MEN'S BASKETBALL LOOKS TO SNAP SKID AT UCF ON FEB. 4

ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 3 -- The University of Houston issued the following news release:

The University of Houston men's basketball team looks to return to its winning ways when it faces Conference USA-rival UCF at 6 p.m. (CST), Wednesday, inside the UCF Arena. The Cougars (12-7 - 3-3 C-USA) bring a season-long three-game losing streak into Wednesday's game after falling 83-68 last weekend at No. 18/19 Memphis. It was the first time since the 2005-06 season that the Cougars dropped three consecutive games. Against the Tigers, junior guard Aubrey Coleman led the Cougars with a career-high 35 points. He equaled the Cougar scoring season high first posted by junior guard Kelvin Lewis at Arizona on Jan.

24. Lewis and Coleman have combined to give the Cougars a potent scoring duo, ranking among the C-USA to-four individual leaders with 19.6 and 19.1 points per game, respectively. With Coleman's scoring total last weekend, UH boasts a pair of 35-point single-game scorers in the same season for the first time since the 1968-69 campaign. Senior center Marcus Cousin leads the Cougars and ranks second in the league with 9.1 rebounds per game, while Coleman ranks fourth with 7.9 boards per contest. He is the only player in the league to rank among the top-four leaders in both categories. The pregame show is slated to begin 15 minutes before tip-off. Wednesday's game also will be televised live on CBS College Sports (DirecTV channel 613/Dish Network 152) with Tom McCarthy calling the play-by-play action and Greg Anthony providing analysis. SERIES HISTORY For the fourth consecutive season, the Cougars meet Conference USA-rival UCF on the hardwood. The Cougars own a 5-2 (.714) lead in the all-time series, which has been played at least twice every year since the 2005-06 season. This will be the first time that the Cougars square off against the Knights only once during the regular season The Cougars bring a two-game winning streak into Wednesday's game after enjoying a 73-68 win on March 5, 2008, in Hofheinz Pavilion. The Cougars own a 2-1 lead (.667) against the Knights at UCF. In the most recent action there, UH claimed an 84-81 win on Feb. 2, 2008. This will be the fourth straight season that the Cougars travel to the Sunshine State to meet the Knights. ABOUT UCF Winners of its last five and 10 of its last 12 games, the Knights come into Wednesday's game following a 79-74 overtime victory over Conference USA-rival Tulane last weekend. It was the Knights' 11th home win in 12 games this season Jermaine Taylor leads the Knights and Conference USA with 23.9 points per game. He is the only Knight to average double digits in scoring. Tony Davis is tops with 5.9 rebounds per game, while Taylor is a close second with five rebounds per contest. Now in his 19th season overall, head coach Kirk Speraw has posted a 344-229 (.600) record and is 262-208 (.557) in 16 years at UCF. He is 2-5 (.286) all-time against the Cougars. NEXT HOME GAME FOR Houston Following Wednesday's game, the Cougars return to Hofheinz Pavilion to play host to league- and crosstown-rival Rice at 8 p.m., Feb. 7 inside Hofheinz Pavilion. That game will be part of a doubleheader with the women's team, which also plays host to the Owls at 5 p.m. Free admission is available to approved groups of 10 or more people for the remaining Saturday home games (Feb. 7, vs. Rice; Feb. 14, vs. Tulane; Feb. 21, vs. UCF and March 7, vs. SMU).
