BROOKINGS, S.D., June 4 -- South Dakota State University issued the following news release:

South Dakota State University women's basketball coach Aaron Johnston, along with University of South Dakota head coach Ryun Williams, announced Thursday that the Jackrabbits and Coyotes will play on Feb. 15, 2010, at Frost Arena. "The opportunity to play USD fit the scheduling criteria we have for our women's basketball team," said Johnston, whose Jackrabbits have finished in the top 40 of the NCAA rating percentage index (RPI) two of the last three years.

"We really needed a home date and we were looking for a single game." The two squads have not played since the 2003-04 season, after which SDSU moved to NCAA Division I. USD has since begun its transition to Division I athletics and will join the Jackrabbits in The Summit League during the 2011-12 academic year. Overall, SDSU leads the series, 37-21, after sweeping the 2003-04 season series by scores of 99-83 and 61-58. The Jackrabbits are coming off a historic 2008-09 season in which they tied a school record for wins with a 32-3 record, claimed their second consecutive Summit League regular season title, won the league postseason title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in their first year of eligibility. In addition, SDSU became the first Summit League team to earn a national ranking since the 1992-93 season, climbing as high as 15th in the USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll. SDSU returns four starters, including all-Summit League performers Ketty Cornemann and Kristin Rotert, as well as Summit League Sixth Woman of the Year Jill Young. USD welcomes back three starters from last year's 18-11 squad. Johnston expects the remainder of the Jackrabbits' 2009-10 schedule to be finalized in the next two weeks. For more information please contact: Sarabjit Jagirdar, Email:- htsyndication@hindustantimes.com
