Alabama Team Report
Updated: January 5, 2009, 1:00 AM ESTGetting Inside Ronnie Steele is rounding his game into shape, and that's good news for Alabama fans.
The senior point guard, who sat out last season while rehabbing from knee surgeries, scored 23 points and handed out a season-high 10 assists in his last outing, an 88-77 victory over Georgia Tech that really wasn't that close. The Tide had a 30-point lead midway through the second half."I think for about 25 or 30 minutes, we were an awfully good basketball team on both ends of the floor," coach Mark Gottfried said. "We were a very good basketball team in the first half. "We got cautious late, but overall it is still a great win for our team. Like I said, for about 30 minutes of the game we were a pretty good basketball team today so hopefully we can keep improving." The emergence of Steele, who had 14 points and eight assists by halftime, couldn't be coming at a better time. The Tide has a non-conference game at Clemson coming up but gets into SEC play by opening at home against LSU on Jan. 11. Those two teams, both coming off disappointing years, look to battle it out for the SEC Western Division title this season. Notes and Quotes --Senior F Alonzo Gee posted his second double-double of the season with 15 points and a career-high 18 rebounds in the win over Georgia Tech. His first was a 20-point, 10-rebound effort in the win over Yale. After scoring just six points in his first two games, Gee now has scored in double figures in 11 consecutive games.
--Freshman F JaMychal Green has scored in double figures in five consecutive games after behind held to two points in the win over Tennessee State. Green is averaging 11.4 points and 6.8 rebounds a game over that stretch.QUOTE TO NOTE: "I felt good. I feel like I'm getting better each game and each practice." -- senior guard Ronnie Steele, after his 23-point, 10-assist game against Georgia Tech. Roster Report Five Alabama players scored in double figures in the win over Georgia Tech, the second time that has happened this season. The first was in the win over Quincy in the previous game.

Quincy 58 Alabama 88, Georgia Tech 77 GAME PREVIEW: at Clemson, Tuesday, Jan. 6. vs. LSU, Sunday, Jan. 11. at Mississippi State, Wednesday, Jan. 14. IN FOCUS: The trip to unbeaten Clemson will provide the Tide a good measure of how it stands going into conference play, but the big game coming up will be against LSU. The winner of that one will earn the favorite's tag in the SEC Western Division.
