Iowa's record is no treat for BCS
by SECOND THOUGHTS BRIAN KOLLARS , Dayton Daily News
* Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi would go as Houdini. The Ohio native threw five interceptions against Indiana, and the unbeaten Hawkeyes won 42-24.
I like this because it frustrates college football bluebloods who can't stand anyone outside of the SEC or Texas getting a sniff at the BCS championship game.
* Phillies star Chase Utley looks like Count Dracula. Nice hair, Chase.
* If he lets that beard grow, Brett Favre would make a good Rip Van Winkle.
* UC's Brian Kelly could go as Notre Dame's next football coach.
* Chad Ochocinco? An NCR executive because he spends so much time in New York.
Put on a mask: I've heard a lot of talk about high school kids trick-or-treating. I really don't care as long as they wear costumes. I've had kids taller than me come to the door in street clothes and not say a word. Maybe they were just going as dense teenagers.
One other thing, kids. It's nice to dress up as vampires, princesses and Hannah Montanas, but if you want to impress us cranky adults, say "thank you" after we drop candy bars into your bags.
Bye week: The Bengals and Buckeyes both had bye weeks, although Ohio State did hold a scrimmage against New Mexico State. What, Ohio Dominican wasn't available?
Well, at least Buckeye fans got a chance to see their quarterback of the future: DeVier Posey. He threw the best pass of the game on a trick play that helped OSU win 45-0 and cover a ridiculous 44-point spread.
Striking out: Ken Griffey Jr. had some "cleanup" knee surgery last week, which means Junior might consider playing next year. Watching Griffey play another season sounds about as fun as a trip to the Renaissance Festival.
Griffey turns 40 on Nov. 21. He batted .214 this season. It's time to take a graceful bow and work on that Hall of Fame speech.
