UH Football Coach Kevin Sumlin, Quarterback Case Keenum Earn Honors

The University of Houston issued the following news release:

National honors continue to be directed toward University Of Houston head football coach Kevin Sumlin and his field general Case Keenum.

Sumlin has been named a semifinalist for the George Munger College Coach of the Year honor, while Keenum is a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award Player of the Year Award.

The George Munger Award is named for the former University of Pennsylvania coach whose devotion to ethics in athletics and his commitment to education set a standard for which all college coaches should strive. Voters for the Maxwell college awards are NCAA head college football coaches, members of the Maxwell Football Club and sportswriters and sportscasters from across the country.

Sumlin has guided the Cougars to a 7-1 record this season and has led the Cougars to their second-best start after eight games in Houston history. Sumlin's offense ranks first in the nation per game in total offense (563.3), passing yards (422.6) and first downs (31.9) while the scoring offense ranks second (41.6).

Cougars quarterback Keenum, a junior, is a semifinalist for the 73rd Maxwell Award for the College Player of the Year. This award is presented in honor of Robert W. (Tiny) Maxwell, legendary college player, official and sports columnist. Voters for the Maxwell College Awards are NCAA Head College Football Coaches, members of the Maxwell Football Club and sportswriters and sportscasters from across the country
