Defending national champion Minnesota-Duluth earned the No. 1 seed in its regional and a first-round bye for the NCAA Division II football playoffs, which begin Saturday.

Minnesota State Mankato also qualified for the Region 3 tournament. Both Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference teams finished 10-1 overall, with UMD winning the NSIC championship.

The Bulldogs have won 26 of their past 27 games, losing only to unbeaten Central Washington 13-10 on Sept. 3. They are scheduled to play on Nov. 21 at home against the winner of Saturday's first-round game between No. 5 Saginaw Valley State (9-2) and No. 4 Nebraska-Kearney (10-1).

In the other first-round matchup, No. 3 Minnesota State Mankato (10-1) will play host to No. 4 Hillsdale College (8-3), with the winner playing at No. 2 Grand Valley State (11-1) on Nov. 21.

Oklahoma out of poll: Oklahoma dropped out of the Associated Press poll for the first time since 2005, and No. 25 Stanford moved into the rankings for the first time since 2001.

Briefly: California tailback Jahvid Best was released from an Oakland hospital and will miss at least one game after sustaining a concussion on a terrifying fall in the end zone Saturday night. Best landed on the back of his head and was briefly knocked unconscious in the Bears' 31-14 loss to Oregon State. Best, who has 16 touchdowns and 867 rushing yards, will not play Saturday against Arizona.

Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder has a separated right shoulder and will miss Saturday's game against Wake Forest.

Louisiana State running back Charles Scott will miss the rest of the regular season after suffering a fractured collarbone in Saturday's loss to Alabama.
