Report: JoePa tells recruits successor is on staff
by FOXSports.com
Paterno has assured recruits that when he retires, his replacement will be someone already on his staff, according to a report by the Altoona (Pa.) Mirror.
''Mr. Paterno told me himself that his replacement is already within the staff, so he'll just bring one new guy in and bump everybody up in the ranks,'' Nittany Lion LB recruit Mike Yancich said, according to the report. ''Coaching stability is not going to be any big deal at Penn State."
While Paterno's current contract ends at the end of this season, there have been no reports that the second-winningest major college coach of all time will call it a career.
Paterno has posted a career record of 372-125-3 in his 42 seasons as head coach. He trails only Florida State's Bobby Bowden (373 wins) on the all-time major college list.
Penn State went 9-4 in 2007, beating Texas A&M, 24-17, in the Alamo Bowl, and giving JoePa his record 23rd career bowl win in his 500th game as a coach.
