? SCOUTING THE OFFENSE: One of the biggest concerns for Texas all season has been the failure of its running backs to produce consistently. The Longhorns rank fourth in the Big 12 in rushing offense with a respectable 173.4-yard average, but QB Colt McCoy remains their top gainer. By using a committee of backs, including Fozzy Whittaker, Chris Ogbonnaya and Vondrell McGee, the Longhorns lack a dominant rusher, but those three have also been stuffed at times.
? SCOUTING THE DEFENSE: The aggressiveness Texas showed in a Nov. 15 win at Kansas was not only encouraging, but also pointed to the depth the Longhorns can tap both in their defensive line and the secondary. Two mainstays along the line, DE Brian Orakpo and DT Lamarr Houston, were limited by injuries, but Texas still produced four sacks and constantly created pressure behind the line of scrimmage. They also received a nice lift from backup S Christian Scott.? QUOTE TO NOTE: "I feel like our defensive effort is good every game, but just based off of numbers (against Kansas), this would top it all so far." -- Texas linebacker Sergio Kindle.
