Oregon Inside Slant

"We need to rest up," Oregon coach Mike Bellotti said at the start of a rest period leading up to the annual Civil War game against archrival Oregon State at Corvallis.
The Ducks have won two straight to go to 8-3, but Bellotti said, "The momentum is one thing, the physical bumps and bruises are the other. After you get two wins in a row, there is a certain amount of confidence and momentum. But right now this team will take a couple of days off to rest and recover."
And this weekend, they will watch as Oregon State attempts to win at Arizona and make the Civil War a highly important football game -- far beyond the state boundaries. An OSU win this week over Arizona, and the Beavers have a Rose Bowl bid on the line in the Civil War. Two Oregon State wins means USC doesn't go to the Rose, but the Beavers will be there instead for the first time since 1965.
Bellotti said he wanted OSU to beat Arizona to set up the drama in the regular-season finale.
The Ducks were still technically alive for the Rose Bowl but looked like a good bet to go to the Holiday with a win over Oregon State.
