Sometimes, analysis need not be lengthy or complicated. Sometimes, a year of mounting anticipation leads to a season opener that is painfully lopsided and overwhelmingly decisive.

Sometimes, the simplest and most obvious statements are the only statements one needs to tell a story with accuracy and clarity. Saturday night in Atlanta, a massive crowd saw a game that fit all of the above conditions.

You don't need to be a Nobel laureate to determine why Alabama soared and Clemson crashed in a showdown in a sold-out Georgia Dome.

Alabama wanted to be on the field, Clemson didn't. The Tide were excited and focused, while the Tigers were listless and body-snatched. The team from Tuscaloosa came ready to prove a point, while the team from the Palmetto State read a few too many press clippings.

From start to finish, Alabama punched Clemson in the mouth, a result of far greater desire, intensity and determination. The Tide executed better, hit harder, fought longer, and ran better. Clemson lived down to its reputation during the Tommy Bowden era.

Now ask yourself: Do any of the above statements need to be explained or elaborated upon in any detail whatsoever?

Didn't think so.
