Maxpreps.com named its all-state teams earlier this week and the Northern Section fared well in the selections. A first and second team was chosen on offense and defense from each of the California Interscholastic Federation's four State Championship Bowl Game divisions.

Three local players gained first-team accolades, all in the Small Schools Division. Hamilton senior kicker Oscar Pineda earned a spot after he set the Northern Section records for field goals in a season (13) and a career (22), and his teammate Ryan Schimke made the first-team defense as a senior linebacker. Schimke (6-foot-1, 230 pounds) was the Mid-Valley League defensive MVP.

Durham's Richard Galvin is the other first-teamer after he caught 59 passes for 972 yards. The senior wide receiver also hauled in seven touchdowns for the Trojans.

Paradise senior offensive lineman Ryan Gates has been called the best lineman in coach Rick Prinz's 10-year tenure and earned a spot on the Division II second team. The 6-foot senior who weighs 205 pounds was an anchor on a successful offensive line that led the Bobcats to a Northern Section Division I title.

Willows' Cody Pastorino earned offensive league MVP honors in the Sacramento Valley League and is a second-team choice in Division III. The senior wide receiver led the section with 1,042 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns by catch. Pastorino made 41 catches on the year for the Northern Section Division III runner-up.
