Former Penn State All-American tailback Curt Warner, the Nittany Lions' career rushing leader, has been elected to the College Football Hall of Fame.

Warner, who also had a standout NFL career with the Seattle Seahawks, will be inducted with other members of the Class of 2009 at the National Football Foundation's 52nd annual awards dinner Dec. 8 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.

He will become the 22nd member of the Penn State program inducted, joining coach Joe Paterno, 16 other players and four other Nittany Lions coaches.

"I am deeply honored to have been elected to the College Football Hall of Fame," said Warner, who lives in Camas, Wash.

Born and raised in Wyoming County, W.Va., Warner was instrumental in Penn State's 31-5 record his final three seasons, which included two Fiesta Bowl wins (Ohio State and USC) and a 27-23 win over top-ranked Georgia in the 1983 Sugar Bowl in the national championship game.

When Warner's career ended, he owned 42 school records. His 3,398 career rushing yards and 18 100-yard rushing games remain Penn State records.

Other members of the new Hall of Fame class: Pervis Atkins, New Mexico St.; Tim Brown, Notre Dame; Chuck Cecil, Arizona; Ed Dyas, Auburn; Major Harris, West Virginia; Gordon Hudson, BYU; William Lewis, Harvard; Woodrow Lowe, Alabama; Ken Margerum, Stanford; Steve McMichael, Texas; Chris Spielman, Ohio State; Larry Station, Iowa; Pat Swilling, Georgia Tech; Gino Torretta, Miami (Fla.); and Grant Wistrom, Nebraska. Also, coaches Dick MacPherson (UMass, Syracuse) and John Robinson (USC, UNLV).
