Louisiana QB selects Hurricane

Kalen Henderson's search for a college football home ended with a Tulsa address on Monday afternoon. "Tulsa has everything I was looking for in a college ," said Henderson, a quarterback from East St. John (La.)
High School, located just outside New Orleans. "It's a private school that was in the Top 25 in the nation last year. The offense is similar to what we're going to run in high school (next season), and the depth chart and competition is what I was looking for. "This was a perfect fit for me." Henderson (6-foot-1, 185 pounds) will be a senior next season. He is the eighth player from the class of 2010 to announce allegiance to Tulsa. Commitments aren't binding until a letter of intent is signed on Feb. 3, 2010. Henderson said his strengths were his arm and his field awareness. Henderson, a dual-threat quarterback, took part in a TU football camp last week. "What a big coup for Tulsa and our high school," East St. John coach Larry Dauterive said. "His family absolutely loved it. "His mom called me from the stadium (during the camp). Kalen was just enamored with the program." Henderson will join former high school teammate Alex Singleton, a standout running back for East St. John who will play for the Hurricane this fall. Henderson has not had to throw much in high school because of Singleton's success running the football . In his junior season, Henderson was 57-of-94 for 1,012 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also had 441 yards on 42 rushes last season, adding three scores on the ground. During his sophomore campaign his first as a starter he was 49-of-82 for 714 yards and seven touchdowns. He also rushed for 213 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Dauterive said the Wildcats are going to open things up next season, throwing the football more. "For my first two years, with Alex, we ran the ball a lot, but this year we're going to move to five-wide," Henderson said. Henderson had a scholarship offer from Louisiana-Monroe, and schools like TCU, Utah, New Mexico and Mississippi State were showing interest. "It feels great (committing early)," he said. "I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders." Tulsa 2010 COMMITMENTS Jake Alexander OL Jenks Relus Chance DE Waxahachie, Texas Quentin George LB Van Buren, Ark.
