COLLEGES NCAA planning on penalizing Florida St. Sanctions could cost Bowden up to 14 victories

If the penalty sticks, Bowden would have little chance to stay abreast of Penn State's Joe Paterno in their competition to finish as major college football's winningest coach. Paterno begins the 2009 season with 383 wins, which is one more than Bowden has entering his 34th season at
"Joe would not want to win this thing the way they ( NCAA ) are doing this," Bowden said.

Prosecutor wants Clarett to stay in jail - A prosecutor in Columbus, Ohio, is opposing former Ohio State football star Maurice Clarett's request for early release from prison. Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien says Clarett hasn't proven that he should be released so early.
He was sentenced in September 2006 to serve at least 31/2 years for a holdup outside a Columbus bar and a separate highway chase that ended with police finding loaded guns in his SUV.
UCLA tennis player in coma - Police say 20-year-old UCLA tennis player Jeffrey "Jake" Fleming, of Newport Beach, Calif., is in a coma after somebody punched him following a Rascal Flatts concert in Dallas on Saturday.
He was in a Dallas hospital Thursday, but his condition was unavailable.
