NEW HAVEN, Conn., Jan. 22 -- Southern Connecticut State University issued the following news release:

A quartet from the Southern Connecticut State University football team - senior offensive lineman Ed Peters (Bloomfield, N.J.), junior linebacker Jerome Pinckney (Ellenwood, Ga.), junior defensive back Martin Manson (Bloomfield, Conn.) and sophomore tailback John Wiechman (Buxton, Maine) - have been named All-ECAC. The group will be honored by the ECAC at its annual banquet on Feb.

24 at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, N.J. This marks the second straight year that Manson and Peters have earned All-ECAC accolades. The honors continue to roll in for Peters, who was named All-Region by Don Hansen's Football Gazette earlier in the week. The 2008 Northeast-10 Offensive Lineman of the Year, Peters was previously named All-Region (by Daktronics) and All-New England earlier this fall. He also earned All-Northeast-10 honors for the third consecutive season. The center and team captain played an integral role in the offense piling up nearly 5,000 yards of total offense this season. In addition, the Owls also had a 1,000 yard rusher for the fifth straight year thanks in part to his play. Pinckney, the 2008 Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year, was also named All-Region by Don Hansen's Football Gazette earlier in the week. He was also an All-Region (by Daktronics) and an All-New England honoree. Pinckney stepped right into a starting linebacker spot after joining the team from Dean (Mass.) College . He led the team with 67 tackles (8.5 for loss) and eight quarterback hurries. Pinckney also tallied 1.5 sacks, forced two fumbles, recovered two fumbles and had an interception. Wiechman, the 2008 Northeast-10 Offensive Player of the Year, stepped into the starting tailback role after Jarom Freeman went down with an injury in week three. He never looked back, rushing for 1,047 yards and 13 touchdowns. Wiechman led the league in scoring (96 points) and touchdowns (16). During the course of the regular season, he was named Northeast-10 and ECAC Player of the Week on two occasions. Wiechman was also named to the league's weekly honor roll twice. Manson, also a First-Team All-Northeast-10 selection for the second straight year, earned the nod at defensive back. He registered 36 tackles from his spot in the secondary along with three interceptions and seven passes defended. Manson has also recovered one fumble. The Owls closed the 2008 season on Nov. 15 with a loss to No. 20 nationally ranked West Chester in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs. Southern Connecticut closed the year with an 8-3 record and qualified for the NCAA's for the fourth straight year. For more information please contact: Sarabjit Jagirdar, Email:- htsyndication@hindustantimes.com
