LARAMIE, Wyo., May 27 -- The University of Wyoming issued the following news release:

The spring recruiting period for NCAA college football programs concluded on Friday, May 22 and during that spring period at least one member of Wyoming's new football coaching staff made a visit to each of the 58 high school football programs in the state of Wyoming. "We felt it was very important to begin building a relationship with the high school coaches and student-athletes throughout Wyoming as soon as possible," said first-year Wyoming head coach Dave Christensen. "We want to sign every Division I caliber football player out of the state of Wyoming, and we also want to build a walkon program that gives Wyoming kids a chance to prove they can play at this level."

At the conclusion of 2009 spring football drills, there were 11 Wyoming natives on the Cowboy roster, with several expected walkons from Wyoming high schools set to join the program in the fall of 2009. Six returning Wyoming natives saw game action last season and two were starters. Buffalo's Chris Prosinski, at free safety, and Clayton Kirven, at offensive tackle, started 12 and 11 games respectively in `08. Prosinski earned Honorable Mention All-Mountain West Conference honors as a sophomore. The other Wyoming natives who played for the Cowboys last season were: Joe Evers of Sheridan, Garrett King of Greybull, Nick Landess of Casper and Zeb Whipp of Lander. Those six are all on the Wyoming depth chart entering the 2009 season, and are joined by redshirt junior Zach Bolger of Casper's Natrona High School, who earned the No. 2 spot at the Z-receiver position in the spring of `09. The Wyoming Cowboys will begin fall practice in preparation for the 2009 season on Thursday, Aug. 6. The 2009 season will kick off for the Cowboys on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, with a home game versus Weber State.
