Seniors Michael Carrasco (WR, Albuquerque, N.M./Cibola HS) and Carlos Downey (OG, Escondido, Calif./Mt. San Jacinto College /Escondido HS) from the Eastern New Mexico University football team has been selected to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society for their outstanding performances on the gridiron, in the classroom and with community involvement. The duo becomes the second and third recipient of the award, as Fide Davalos was part of the inaugural induction class in 2007. Carrasco and Downey were two of 564 players from 266 schools which composed the 2009 induction class.

The National Football Foundation's criteria for selection include Being a starter or a significant substitute in one's last year of eligibility at an accredited NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III, or an NAIA college or university ; Achieving a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout entire course of undergraduate study; and meeting all NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements. Carrasco earned Academic All-Lone Star Conference South Division status following his senior season, while Downey was named to the LSC South Commissioner's Honor roll. Downey, a physical education major with a minor in coaching, started at offensive guard in 10 of the Hounds' 11 games during the 2009 season, paving the way for a season-high 328 yards of total offense in the second week of the season against Southwestern Oklahoma State.
