SALISBURY UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL ANNOUNCES TEAM CAPTAINS FOR 2009 SEASON

SALISBURY, Md., June 15 -- Salisbury University issued the following news release:

The Salisbury University football program announced its 2009 team captains; Alex Bresner, Antione Cuff, Paul Cynewski, William Midgette and Bobby Sheahin as the new leaders of the Sea Gulls are set to begin their senior seasons at SU. Bresner, a defensive lineman, will look to be a valuable leader along the defensive line and for the rest of the defense in '09. Last season the Sea Gulls finished with the nations 38th best total defense and 50th best rushing defense. Cuff, a defensive back, will look to be a key cog in the Salisbury secondary this upcoming season.

Cuff played in all 11 games and finished the '08 season with 31 tackles including 11 solo tackles. Cynewski, a defensive end, returns for his senior season and will provide experience and leadership to the SU defense. In '08, Cynewski collected a team-high 9.5 sacks and finished with 42 tackles (34 solo). For his performance Cynewski was named to the All-Atlantic Central Football Conference (ACFC) First Team. Midgette, a slot back, will look to be a leader in the backfield for the Sea Gulls in '09. SU finished the '08 season as the top rushing offense in the nation at 379.9 yards per game. Midgette was a key contributor to last season as he finished the season with 264 yards, four rushing touchdowns, one receiving touchdown and a season-long run of 21 yards against Frostburg State University on November 15. Sheahin, a quarterback, returns to Salisbury for his third season in the maroon and gold after he transferred in from the University of Maryland. Sheahin saw action in five games for the Sea Gulls and finished with a completion percentage of 44.4 (12-of-27), two touchdowns and 195 yards. Sheahin rushed for 109 yards, scored one touchdown and ran for a season-long 41 yards against Geneva College on September 13.
