KYLE NYSTROM HIRED AS DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR FOR TIGER FOOTBALL

HAYS, Kan., June 2 -- Fort Hays State University issued the following news release:
Fort Hays State has officially announced the hiring of Kyle Nystrom as defensive coordinator for the Tiger football program. Nystrom comes to the program from North Dakota State University , where he served as assistant head coach and linebackers coach from 2006 to 2008. He was the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at NCAA Division III DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., in 2005. Nystrom was the linebackers coach at Texas Christian University from 2002 to 2004. He helped guide the 2002 Horned Frogs to lead all of NCAA Division I in total defense by allowing just 240 yards per game and in rushing defense with just 65 yards per contest. Prior to his stint at TCU, Nystrom spent 13 seasons at Western Michigan, where he was the longest-tenured assistant coach on Gary Darnell's staff. He spent the final five seasons as the inside linebackers coach and also served as the special teams coordinator in each of his final two seasons with the Broncos. Nystrom graduated from Michigan State University in 1988. He earned a degree in criminal justice and political science. He served five years on the Spartans' staff as a student assistant coach. Upon graduation, he spent one year as a graduate assistant at Northern Michigan.
