Akron, Ohio, April 29 --
University of
Akron issued the following news release:
University of
Akron left tackle
Chris Kemme (Upper Arlington/Upper Arlington HS) will join fellow teammates Brandon Anderson (Colts) and
Bryan Williams (Browns) in an NFL camp, going to the Detroit Lions. Among the greats in
Akron football history, Kemme became the first Zip to be named All-MAC three times over his career. Kemme, named second team in both 2006 and '07, earned first team honors I 2008 to become just the eighth UA student-athlete to be named first team All-MAC, along with Daron Alcorn, (1992), Vic Green (1992), Jason Taylor (1996), Dwight Smith (2000), Konrad Dean (2001), Jabari Arthur (2007) and Reggie Corner (2007). Kemme, a 2008 team captain, played in 47 of a possible 49 games, starting the final 44 of his career - eight at right tackle in 2005 and the rest at left tackle. In each of his four years on the offensive line,
Akron had a running back earn All-MAC honors.
This past season, he anchored a unit which was tabbed MAC East Offensive Players of the Week for their effort in Akron's win over Toledo in 2009. That game, the group paved the way for running back Dennis Kennedy, who rushed for 153 yards, and allowed quarterback Chris Jacquemain to throw for 226 yards and three touchdowns without allowing a sack in the Zips' 47-30 win over Toledo. Overall, Akron compiled 458 yards of total offense versus the Rockets, including 232 rushing, and scored five offensive touchdowns. Kemme played a key role in the exploits of All-MAC running back Kennedy, who set a UA single-season record for points scored (110) and had the third-best rushing season in UA history (1,321 yards) - best in Akron's NCAA Division I-A era. Also in 2008, Jacquemain had one of the best seasons at the position in UA history. The junior threw for 2,748 yards (fourth on the UA season list), 20 touchdowns (third on the UA season list) and had 2,794 yards of total offense (fourth on the UA season list). He also completed 57.9 percent of his passes, fifth behind Charlie Frye who completed at least 58 .8 percent of his passes in each of his four years with the Zips. (58.8, 65.8, 64.8 and 63.6) Akron's offense this season ranked 45th in the NCAA in rushing offense (165.17), 46th in passing offense (231.50) and 40th in total offense (396.67). Last season, Akron ranked 90th in the nation in rushing offense (127.83), 100th in passing offense (183.83) and 111th in total offense (311.67). Also, the Zips' offensive line only allowed 1.5 sacks per game, 35th-best in the NCAA. However, when you exclude teams that primarily run the ball, the Zips ranked among the top 15 nationally in protecting the quarterback. In 2007, Kemme helped pave the way for All-MAC running back Bryan Williams and in 2006, Kennedy was named All-MAC for the first time in his career. In 2005, the season Akron won the MAC Championship, Kemme blocked for All-MAC running back Brett Biggs. For more information please contact: Sarabjit Jagirdar, Email:- htsyndication@hindustantimes.com
