Central Michigan Team Report

Inside Slant
The Chippewas return to the field after their shortened bye week with renewed focus. Central Michigan's bid for a first-ever Top 25 ranking, and eighth straight win fell by the wayside with its loss at Boston College.

The extra few days allowed the Chippewas to focus on their goal of winning another MAC West Division title and conference championship. A win would also mark the first time since 1977-80 that CMU won at least eight games in four straight seasons, and make the Chippewas 6-0 in the MAC for the second straight season.

Central Michigan coach Butch Jones said his team needed a break.

"It was a good break ? we were one of the teams in the country who have gone nine straight weeks without a break," Jones said. "There were bumps and bruises and just the wear and tear of the week-in and week-out stress of playing football, plus six of our nine games were on the road. Four of our five games in October were on the road."

CMU senior quarterback Dan LeFevour struggled against Boston College due to migraine headaches. Jones said LeFevour is fine and dealt with the problems in the past. The status of wide receiver Antonio Brown and cornerback Josh Gordy is just as important. Brown and Gordy both left the BU game with injuries and did not return. Both players were listed as starters in this week's two-deep roster for the Toledo game.

The Chippewas have dominated teams from the state of Ohio. Central Michigan has won 16 straight games over MAC teams from Ohio, but struggled to beat Toledo, 24-23, last year. Central Michigan, at 7-2 overall and 5-0 in the MAC West, is a near lock to gain its fourth straight bowl bid.

Notes and Quotes
--WR Bryan Anderson's streak of 49 consecutive games played with a reception is the longest streak in the country. Anderson has caught at least one pass in every game of his career, two games shy of the record for any NCAA division.

--QB Dan LeFevour needs two rushing touchdowns to tie CMU's career record. The senior is two completions shy of tying for 10th in NCAA history.

--DE Frank Zombo is a half sack shy of moving to second place in school history.

SERIES HISTORY: Tied at 17-17-3 (last meeting, 2008, 24-23, CMU)

SCOUTING THE OFFENSE: The Chippewas lead the conference in scoring at 30.6 points a game. Toledo's defense allows 37.4 points a game. The Chippewas will score points, thus eliminating mistakes is crucial. The Chippewas rank fifth in the country in fumbles lost.

SCOUTING THE DEFENSE: The CMU defense has faced plenty of tough tests with three games against BCS teams on the road. Although Toledo lacks the firepower of past teams, the Rockets average 28.6 points and 440.6 yards per game. The Chippewas must force a turnover or two to keep the game from turning into an offensive highlight show.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I think our kids were very disappointed (in the loss), but they were very focused (in practice). You've got to learn from your mistakes. We've had a good week of preparation." -- CMU coach Butch Jones on the loss at Boston College.

Strategy and Personnel
THIS WEEK'S GAME: Toledo at Central Michigan, Nov. 11 -- The Chippewas should be heavy favorites, but the Rockets traditionally play strong against CMU. Last year, CMU escaped with a 24-23 win over the Rockets.

KEYS TO THE GAME: The Chippewas must not the frustration from losing at Boston College boil over against the Rockets. Toledo has trouble holding onto the ball, ranking 106th in the country in fumbles lost. The first few possessions are key for the Chippewas.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

QB Dan LeFevour -- It'll be interesting to see how LeFevour feels after suffering migraine headaches in his last game.

WR Antonio Brown -- A dynamic playmaker, Brown left the Boston College game with an injury. The Chippewas need a healthy Brown for the final month.

LB Nick Bellore -- Ranks third among all active players with 9.4 tackles per game.

ROSTER REPORT:

--QB Dan LeFevour is not showing any signs of the migraine headaches he endured at Boston College.

--WR Antonio Brown is expected to play after leaving the BC game with an injury.

--CB Josh Gordy is listed as a starter in the Toledo two-deep game notes. Gordy missed the majority of the BC game due to an injury.
